A horse walks into a bar and the bartender says,

"Sorry it's such short notice but we're actually not going to need you for January or February." So I'm laid off for two months starting this Saturday. I can collect unemployment for a little less than what I'm making now, which is fine with me. As long as I can pay the bills. I'll have a whole lotta time to catch up with my shamefully far behind thesis work. I can go home for Christmas and take my sweet time getting back to Long Island. It's really not a big deal except for the fact that they waited until almost the last possible minute to make the decision, which is a shitty thing to do. But I've got a nice leisurely two month vacation coming up. so I don't particularly care much anymore.

So I'll be home on Saturday afternoon with a suitcase full of presents that have to wrapped and hankerin' for some Bob's Fried Clams and some Honga and some Vinnie T's and some Gourmet Garden, and possibly a Friendly's sundae, because god damn my meals are pretty freakin' monotonous around here. Although I did make some salmon the other day that was positively divine, although it might have had something to do with the fact that it had been around a month since I had some good animal protein. I'm a hungry bitch. And maybe this time Madame Tracy and I will actually have the time to go boozing around town.

On a day which is every day

I've got Little Plastic Castles on the brain. Really only the horn section, although it's hard to write out bop-bop-bop-bop baaah bop! as a title and have anyone know what the hell you're talking about.

It's been an all tea porn morning. I've got my eye on about two dozen different green, black, fruit, and blended teas, which isn't as bad as you might think because both Special Teas and Adagio teas sell 1/2 oz samples for one and two dollars, respectively. Although Adagio's come in cute little silver tins, which is so worth the extra buck. And I have a huge crush on this teapot. I wouldn't kick this one out of bed, either. My next apartment is going to be all teapots and storage tins and infusors. And lots of rock sugar. This is probably the one thing in my life that could turn into a real, cat-lady-who-lives-at-the-end-of-the-street-in-the-house-with-the-three-foot-high-lawn kind of obsession. I really like things that are elegant and functional. Which doesn't explain at all why I like egg cups so much. I mean, who the hell uses an egg cup anymore?

Work is slowing down. I do two, maybe three purchase orders a day. My work consists mainly of doing writeouts now that retail is doing inventory on everything. And I'm hounding a vendor about a rose order we put in. He won't return my call or fax me an order confirmation. Bastard.

I have been having some old school intestinal woe lately. By old school I mean middle school, like back before I knew what was wrong with me and didn't know how to take care of myself. I think I've had more woe in the past six months than I have in the past two years. That's the nine-to-five life for you.

I was told we had a tornado the other day, which would explain the freakishly sudden high winds and bright but still cloudy sky. And the greenish tint to the air. I was sitting in my office when all the dead leaves left on the tree across the parking lot slammed into my window. Everyone upstairs came down to the first floor. Someone had sent the company a big tin of flavored popcorn and we all stood in the kitchen eating popcorn and looking out the windows at all the trees rocking on their root balls and all the signs falling down like it was a movie, while a couple of big strong men walked outside to check out the damage. The ducks and chickens looked like they were holding onto the ground for dear life. George told me that a tornado touched down at Southampton High School and made it all the way to East Hampton
Dude.

One of the little girl chickens got hurt. I think she hurt her foot. She kind of lists to the left. We kept her in a box in the basement for two days and put her back out this morning. I got to hold her for a little bit. About ten seconds after I put her down she pooped, and I have to say, I really appreciate that she waited until she on the ground. She's still not walking quite right, but one of the roosters is staying close to her, so at least she'll have a little protection from the other chickens and the ducks.
